The only place you can ever be… is right where your feet are.
Here. Now. This very moment.
Sounds obvious, right? But in a world obsessed with what was and what might be, it’s easy to forget that the only time that actually exists—the only place you can live, act, and grow—is the present.
Let me tell you a quick (and slightly embarrassing) story…
Back in my early 20s, I drove by a bar that had a bright neon sign that said:
“FREE BEER TOMORROW!”
Free beer? Let’s go!!!
I showed up the next day—nothing. Bartender pointed at the sign.
“Come back tomorrow,” he says with a grin.
So I did. And again. And again.
It only took me a week to get the joke (what can I say, I’m a little slow!).
Tomorrow never actually comes.
Because when tomorrow gets here… it’s today.
Tomorrow is always a day away.
The same is true with the past. We talk about the past as if it’s a place we can revisit. But it only exists in our memories, our minds, and our language. You can’t go back—you can only reflect.
Don’t get me wrong—there’s immense value in revisiting the past to gain perspective, learn powerful lessons, and cherish meaningful memories.
And there’s also value in thinking ahead—in setting goals, building plans, and preparing for your future.
But your energy, your focus, and your attention?
They belong in the present.
Because if you want to win the moment… you have to be IN the moment.
Here’s the kicker:
The future is always 100% hypothetical.
No one can predict it. No one can control it.
You’re never worried about the future… you’re worried about a presumed future (that you’ve made up in your head!).
So if we’re going to make it up anyway… why not assume things are going to work out in our favor?
That’s just as “real” as assuming the worst.
So today, as you take on your to-do list, your goals, your challenges… remind yourself:
The only place you can actually be… is right here.
And the only time you can actually live in… is right now.
So do that.
Be where your feet are.
