There’s one thing I know for certain…
When you learn to shift your focus off of what you want from people and redirect it to what you want for people, you become the most magnetic person in the room.
Instantly.
That shift—from getting to giving—changes everything. And when it comes to persuasion, impact, and influence, let’s be clear: magnetism matters.
But before we go any further, let’s address something upfront.
This is not about perfection.
Throw that ideal out the window.
Basketball isn’t a perfect game.
Business isn’t a perfect game.
Real estate? Definitely not a perfect game.
And let’s be honest—life isn’t a perfect game either.
If you’re waiting until everything is perfect before you take action… you’ll be waiting forever.
I don’t want you stifled by perfection. I want you inspired by progress.
Fill Your Cup First
You’ve heard the saying: You can’t pour from an empty cup.
That’s not just a nice quote—it’s a fundamental truth. If you don’t care enough to prioritize your own self-care, to fill your own bucket first, you will have less to give the people around you.
Write this down:
Anytime you show up as less than the best version of yourself… it’s an act of selfishness.
Because when you’re depleted, you give less.
Less energy.
Less service.
Less love.
And I’m not just talking about work or business—I’m talking about your family. Your spouse. Your kids. Your friends.
Showing up halfway robs the people you care about most of what they truly deserve: you at your best.
But here’s the kicker…
You will never show up as the best version of yourself by accident.
It only happens intentionally.
So I challenge you—care enough about yourself, your craft, your people—to make self-care a non-negotiable.
Want a Reminder That It’s Not About You?
Have kids.
I’m a proud father of 15-year-old twin sons and an almost 13-year-old daughter. And trust me—if you ever need a crash course in humility… parenting will give it to you fast.
A couple of summers ago, I brought my twin boys, Luke and Jack, with me on a keynote trip to Las Vegas. Big stage. MGM Grand. Thousands of attendees. Bright lights. The whole deal.
Halfway through my talk, I glance over expecting to see my sons beaming with pride, soaking it all in…
Nope.
Jack is completely passed out on the table.
Luke? Building a pyramid out of my business cards.
Not a single word of mine was being heard.
It was the perfect reminder: this isn’t about me.
The Next Play Mentality
Whether you’re leading a team, running a business, or raising a family, I want you to adopt a holistic approach.
Look the people in your life in the eye—your spouse, your kids, your teammates, your colleagues—and say it out loud:
“It’s not about me. It’s about you.”
Because when you live from that place of service, that Next Play Mentality, you don’t dwell on what just happened. You don’t get caught up in ego. You focus forward. You lead with purpose.
So the next time you walk into a meeting, take the stage, close a deal, or sit down at the dinner table—remind yourself:
This is not about me. This is about you.
And that mindset?
That Next Play Mentality?
It’s the secret to real influence, real leadership, and real fulfillment.
