Work/life BALANCE is a myth.
Yes, I said it.
It’s unrealistic.
It’s unattainable.
It’s unsustainable.
The term BALANCE implies equality between ‘work time’ and ‘family time’… which is mathematically impossible to achieve.
Therefore, I strive for work/life FLOW.
I aim for work/life HARMONY.
I work towards work/life ALIGNMENT.
I absolutely love my work – but my family, health, and fulfillment are my top priorities.
However, pouring into meaningful work empowers me to become the best version of myself possible… which elevates every aspect of my life (EX: the fulfillment I get from doing purposeful work makes me a better father).
How do I achieve work/life flow, harmony, and alignment?
By LIVING PRESENT.
How do I do that?
By being ‘where my feet are.’
When I’m with my kids… I’m WITH MY KIDS.
I’m not thinking about work or checking my phone. I give them my full attention.
Conversely, when I’m working – speaking or writing or filming – my focus is locked into the task at hand. Wherever I am or whoever I’m with… I remain dialed in, connected, and present.
I don’t focus on the QUANTITY of hours I devote to each. I focus on the QUALITY of hours I pour into each.
This is not easy by any means. It’s one of my biggest challenges on a daily basis and I’m not anywhere close to perfect at it.
But I’m proud of the progress I’ve made and I’m grateful for the path that I’m on… as I’m currently enjoying the best work/life flow, harmony, and alignment that I have ever experienced!
